Bunny the Cuddle Friend

I am surprised at how difficult it is for me to choose a toy for Sadie. I never thought I would need to consider what a dog might enjoy the most . . . I found this great un-stuffed rabbit at Target when I went to pick up Sadie's weekly supply of FreshPet. Surprisingly, I felt a little pressure to make sure the toy I chose was "the perfect toy". Would she like a fetch, a tug or an occupy? Who knew there were categories of dog toys?  I settled on this Boots & Barkley Cuddle & Toss Rabbit, which might be a little big for Sadie but she is enjoying it regardless!

Last night while I was making dinner, I kept hearing a little squeak toy in the other room. When I went to investigate I saw that Sadie had discovered that the hands and feet of the rabbit have a squeak mechanism. She entertained herself for several minutes with the squeaking.

Let's Go!

Sadie loves to be in the car and she is very comfortable riding along anytime she's invited.

When it's time to get out of the car, there is usually a game of "who is smarter" in trying to coax her out. She will move from seat to seat in an effort to avoid being picked up and removed from the car.

I love our happy, car riding dog - she is very sweet.

Rock A Bye Sadie

Sadie is turning out to be a cuddle bug, she loves to snuggle up and feel you close to her. She also enjoys laying on her back and getting a nice belly rub or to be cradled in your arms like a baby.  It's fun to watch my 18 year old son dish out lots of love to Sadie, I think he loves her as much as I do!

Rainy Day

We had a very cold but welcomed rain storm in California recently. Sadie was so relaxed watching the rain from our front window, I couldn't help but sneak a few pictures.

Sadie is slowly but surely adjusting to her new home, she seems to be very mild and loving.

When I first met Sadie, the folks at the
Redlands Animal Shelter speculated that she was a yard dog because of her condition when she arrived (fed, but very unkempt).
I'm not sure that is true, she is very well mannered in the house and seems to know how to act. She always waits for me to invite her over for a snuggle, she introduced herself to her crate and she is very well behaved on a leash.

I feel like I hit the dog jackpot.

Breaking My Heart

Seriously! Bringing Sadie home after her spay appointment was heartbreaking. She was miserable and I felt so bad for her. My plan is to crate train her, but her first night home I needed her next to me all night. I moved her bed on to my bed so I could check on her frequently while we both tried to get some sleep.

Fortunately, she is healing nicely - I was so happy to learn about the Zen Collar, it is so much more convenient than the dreaded "Cone of Shame". It really helps that she can eat and drink easily, I'm sure proper nutrition and hydration are important while dogs recover too!

While Sadie is in recovery, my employer is nice enough to allow me to bring her to work each day. Most of the day she is perfectly happy sleeping on her cozy bed under my desk.

When she is not sleeping she enjoys getting to know my co-workers and going for short walks, the weather in Southern California has been beautiful this week!

Meeting Sadie

Have you ever had a feeling that something was exactly right and no matter what obstacles were in the way, it was going to happen? That's the way I felt about this dog when I first saw her on the Redlands Animal Shelter social media feed.

Matted fur and all, I knew that this was the dog I had been looking for and that I needed to meet her soon. In addition to being adorable, she showed up at the shelter on my birthday - that had to be a sign, right?

I tried to play it cool when I consulted the Mr. regarding a new addition to our family, I didn't want to seem like I was rushing into a new dog just because she looked cute on Facebook! Fortunately for me he has a very soft place in his heart for the Lhasa Apso breed (something I didn't realize until recently). Not one to jump the gun about anything he replied, "If you still feel the way you feel now about the dog when you meet her, you should adopt her."

When I met Sadie she was very timid, she was shaking and wouldn't look at me. This made me love her more, I knew she was going to flourish in our home.
